Source = Abercrombie & Kent At the recent Virtuoso® conference in Las Vegas, Abercrombie & Kent Australia was honoured as the proud winner of Best Virtuoso® Voyager Club Event. Voyager Club runs hundreds of cruise events around the world and nominations for the best event were of the highest calibre. A&K Australia’s event took place in January for guests travelling on Silverseas’ Silver Shadow. Docked at Station Pier, the group travelled with A&K to a private sheep station out of Melbourne where they were treated to a day of old fashioned Aussie hospitality. Morning tea got the day off to a fine start with a spread of freshly baked cakes, slices, scones, jam and cream. The owners chatted with guests about the history of the property, the merino flock and the process of wool production, culminating in a shearing demonstration and an exhibition of sheep dogs in action. A three-course traditional Aussie BBQ lunch was included back at the homestead with some accompanying local Australian wines before guests helped plant a native Australian tree on the property and watched kangaroos in the wild. A&K’s General Manager, Kathie Sikkes, was proud to receive the award at a gala dinner saying, “I consider this a great achievement in recognition of exceptional creativity and service. A&K has long identified the need for travellers to connect in a genuine way with local people and culture, beyond the usual tourist routes, and it is this understanding which now underpins the way we design all our itineraries”.
