The society was able to do this without having a permanent space for running its operations since its building on Francis Lane, Goodwill was destroyed by the hurricane. Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Cancer Society Vinna Royer told Vibes News that patients were assisted with both chemotherapy and radiation. “Already for this year, where radiation care is concerned, we have sent off about eight persons to Guyana. We have one person in Guadeloupe and I speak of those persons who come through our society, the Cancer Society. Not everybody comes because there are people who do private service but for those who come to us.”Chemotherapy she added is done in Dominica and about four persons approach the society for assistance.“We assist these people directly from our funds, we assist them with getting the drugs for chemo or sometimes it is for a scan or sometimes it is for treatment.”Meanwhile she said the government is playing a big role in assisting the Cancer Society with being able to help cancer patients in need.“I must say the government is the reason why we are afloat because from the time we settled and got a place, we’ve gotten a subvention from government where we’re able to pay our rent and get our supplies.”The government she added also assist with paying for the treatment cost when patients are sent to Guyana. The Cancer society she said meets the cost of accommodation and living allowance for these patients. “Thanks to the government we are able to pay those treatments costs,” she said adding, “Can they do more? I am sure we are not the only group they are helping so we are thankful for what we are getting from them.” Sharecenter_img HealthLocalNews Cancer Society assisted over 25 cancer patients post Maria by: Dominica Vibes News – September 21, 2018 Sharing is caring! 374 Views   no discussionslast_img
