One of the veteran boxing elites Manoa Petueli of Misima Island, Milne Bay last Thursday told the Post-Courier that they are happy to be given such an opportunity to take the lead in identifying local talents in lead up preparation towards the 8th PNG Games in 2020. “Our task will include rolling out training programs especially Island hopping to scout talents to represent Team Milne Bay boxing squad,” Petueli said. He said apart from the sport of boxing, Misima district will host selection trials for sports like soccer, netball, volleyball and darts. Athletes will compete among each other at the district level and then see them taking part in a provincial tournament. Petueli commended Milne Bay provincial government and provincial principal advisor Sports and Community Development Alfred Kivilon for giving them the directives to host selection for boxers and other sports. He added Samarai district will send their boxers to compete against Kiriwina in July while in November all boxers will converge on Alotau town to see the final elimination of finalists. Petueli is also calling on the PNG Amateur Boxing Union to establish effective communication dialogues with all affiliates. He said they are in total darkness when it comes to getting updates on national championships, training courses and others.last_img
