first_imgTaylor Meyer in home meet against Andale.by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow – Results of Wellington High School and middle school events for this week:Wellington High School volleyballThe Crusaders lost two Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV matches Tuesday on Senior Night in their home gymnasium. It was evident from the start, Wellington was playing its two best opponents of the season. Andale sported an 18-6 record going in and Rose Hill was 22-2.Andale would beat Wellington to open the triangular, 25-10, 25-15.Rose Hill then capped the evening with a 25-15, 25-14 victory. Wellington fell to 14-10 for the season. The middle match was very intriguing as Andale pulled off the semi-upset beating Rose Hill 25-21, 25-16.Wellington was short handed as key starter Adrienne Norris was nursing an ankle injury and is out indefinitely.It was Senior Night. Norris, Reese Heasty, Taylor Meyer, Brooke McCorkle, Delaney Parkey, and Sierra Rademacher were honored.The Crusaders won’t have a Saturday tournament. Wellington travels to Andale for another tough triangular on Oct. 2 that will include Buhler.———WHS JV volleyball Andale defeated Wellington 27-25, 25-15.Rose Hill defeated Wellington 25-18, 25-5.———Wellington tennisThe Crusaders traveled to the Wichita Collegiate twice last week. Wellington finished third on Sept. 18. The team scores were: Salina 30, Goddard 19, Wellington 18, Collegiate 17, Winfield 14, Augusta 8, Newton 7 and Classical 3.In No. 1 singles, Wellington’s Natalie Henning went 2-1 for fifth. In No. 2 singles, Olivia Brand went 2-1 for fifth.In No. 1 doubles, Kylie Aufdengarten and Rylee Rusk placed second. In No. 2 doubles, Jacelyn Buck and Calli Hatfield placed second.In the Collegiate Tournament of Champions on Saturday, Rusk/Aufdengarten finished 13th out of 38 doubles teams, going 3-2 for the day.Henning, in singles, finished 23rd, going 2-3. Doubles partners Buck/Hatfield finished 1-4 on the day, losing two tiebreakers at the end. Wellington did not have a full team compete.There were no results of the Kingman tournament on Tuesday at this time. Wellington plays in the AV-CTL Tournament next Monday in Winfield.———Wellington golf The Lady Crusaders competed at the Andale Invitational Golf Tournament at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney on Monday. Wellington head coach James Ginter said Emberly Gonzalez and Payton Ginter played well.  Gonzalez recorded her first birdie and par of her young golf career.  She had her highest finish of the season as well.Payton Ginter continued to play well, finishing sixth overall with an 87 (+15) for the day.  The Andale Invitational hosts the front running teams in 4A Andale and 5A Andover.  The field had a number of very good golfers.Wellington will wrap up the regular season next Monday at the AVCTL Championships, hosted again by Andale at Cherry Oaks.  Regionals will be here in Wellington on October 8.———WMS Cross CountryThe Wellington Middle School hosted a home invitational Tuesday afternoon at Hargis Creek – the only home meet of the season since the high school meet was cancelled due to wet weather.The WMS results are as follows:Eighth grade boys Jaxson Irey-Hunt, 9.53, 22nd, personal record.Colten Henning 10.17, 37th, personal record.Caleb Sanders 10.19, 39th, personal record.Daniel Garver 11.54, 69th, personal record.Taylon Ellis 11.48, 70th, personal record.Seventh grade boysLandyn Glenn, 6.16, 18th, personal record, medal.Alex Gonzalez, 8.02, 58th, personal record.Eighth grade girls Peyton Franke 10.18, sixth, personal record, medal.AnnaLisa Cullens 12.56, 35th, personal record.Seventh grade girlsIsabelle Cullens, 12.56, 35th, personal record.Wellington Middle School travels to Mulvane at 4 p.m.Follow us on Facebook.Follow us on Twitter.
