WHITTIER — City and state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials will meet next month to discuss the future of the Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility property, a former state youth prison in Whittier that the city has eyed for redevelopment. State officials, who took the 74.5-acre property off the open market earlier this year, now are apparently committed to retaining at least a portion of the property for use by the corrections department, possibily as a correctional officers’ training facility. City officials, meanwhile, say they might willing to accept a training facility, provided it would take up no more than 15 acres of the Nelles site.
